Kensington and Chelsea and Genocide

This article contains a reference to the Gaza genocide and Grenfell Tower fire that readers could find distressing.

Since October 2023, we have published 19 articles on Palestine, mainly focused on local actions in Kensington that aimed to subvert establishment support for Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians, and highlighting the complicity of local institutions and politicians.

October 2023

Backed by the West, Israel launched its illegal assault on the Gaza Strip. Our article set out some important context to a conflict that started decades before October 7th: Britain’s Palestine Problems.

November 2023

By November, local politicians had made their positions clear – most were supporting Zionism, reflecting the Tory government and the opposition Labour Party: West London Politicians & genocide in Gaza.

By this point there was ample evidence that the events of October 7th had been grossly misrepresented. Despite this, Kensington Labour Party refused to oppose the genocide, even cancelling a meeting due to fears of being protested:

Kensington Labour Running Scared over Palestine?

December 2023

Keir Starmer’s party was devoted to the Zionist project no matter the what depravities this meant they were supporting: Sin Signalling

Kensington Labour’s stance remained in alignment with the national party, and they fudged a statement calling for a ceasefire: How Kensington Labour Went Pro-Israel, Pro-Genocide

Evidence grew that the most egregious October 7th atrocity stories told to justify the genocide were without foundation, but the uncovering of the Zionist propaganda campaign made no difference to the political class.

February 2024

RBKC defended itself after inviting Israel’s ambassador to its annual diplomatic reception: RBKC Honours Israel’s Genocidal Ambassador.

The council’s late cancellation of the event (citing “security” concerns) spared the Zionists’ blushes: RBKC & Zionist Propaganda.

March 2024

With Free Palestine the counterculture zeitgeist, there was the strange use of the Palestinian flag to push a right-wing anti-cycling campaign: From the River to the…

Hard left economist turned well-connected saboteur Paul Mason made an appearance in Queens Park for an election debate, making false allegations of antisemitism against a local campaigner. It didn’t turn out well for Mason: Paul Mason Publicly Attacks Anti-Zionist in Kilburn.

May 2024

The government and opposition’s hands were covered in so much blood, in Ukraine as well as the Holy Land, that there was no way to wash it away and they sank deeper into their Zionism. With the election nearing, their shared zeal for Israel symbolised the way Conservative and Labour had formed a uniparty and local candidates offered tepid support at best for Israel’s victims. A Zionist lobbying organisation canvassed for Labour’s Kensington candidate Joe Powell: War of Indifference.

June 2024

On the anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, Labour’s Queens Park candidate Georgia Gould was challenged over her support for genocide; she didn’t hang around to explain herself.

July 2024

We sent questions to the Kensington parliamentary candidates, including one question on the genocide. The Green Party’s Mona Adam, Reform’s Marc Burca and independent Emma Dent Coad responded. Adam and Dent Coad supported international law while Burca compared the Palestinian resistance to the Nazis. The explicitly Zionist party candidates – from Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat – did not respond: Kensington Election: The Candidates Answer our Questions

Being an anti-war campaigner had been a factor in party bureaucrats removing Emma Dent Coad from the running to be Labour candidate in 2022.

October 2024

After a year of genocide no local institution had done anything to protest Israel. The depths of Zionism’s presence and influence over British life came up again, this time in our article on Arconic: Did a Government Spin Doctor Benefit from Grenfell-Arconic-Israel Link?

November 2024

Like councils all over Britain, RBKC faced calls to divest its staff pension funds from the war industry: RBKC Urged to Divest from Weapons & Tech Linked to Israel’s Crimes.

February 2025

New governments were in power across the west, but the ethnic cleansing of Palestine continued. In Kensington, the uniparty’s craven Zionism mirrored the national picture: Zionism’s West London Lockdown.

RBKC cancelled its diplomatic reception again. Supposedly the energetic and sociable Mayor, Cllr Will Lane, just couldn’t be bothered to host the event: Zionism’s West London Lockdown: The Diplomatic Reception.

March 2025

Cllr Dr Mona Ahmed, leading the push for divestment at Kensington Town Hall, criticised Labour, asking “who are the councillors representing?” The hierarchy of the local Labour party doubled down on supporting the Starmer government’s approach to Israel by calling for regime change in Palestine: Zionism’s Kensington Duopoly.

Nakba

But it is not just politicians and council officers that have failed to act. Throughout 19 months of genocide, we are not aware of a single charity or civil society organisation in Kensington that has shown solidarity with the Palestinians or opposed Zionism, leaving thousands of local people bereft of support and reinforcing the sense of Zionist omnipotence. Al Manaar mosque has been mute and the CEO of a large local charity told us they were instructed by trustees that they should say nothing about the genocide in the name of the charity. Others haven’t needed to be told.

Last week Palestinians marked the 77th anniversary of the start of al Nakba (the catastrophe) when the ethnic cleansing began. Next month we will mark the eighth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. RBKC has a track record when it comes to complicity in people burning to death, and when it comes to racism, which is the basis of Zionism.

We’ll have more on the council’s racism problems soon…
